9 Video Game Characters That Vanished Without A Trace

2. Rebecca Chambers - Resident Evil

Another series notorious for just leaving characters behind forever to go ahead with other plotlines is Resident Evil.

It’s not necessarily a bad way to go about things, it means the series gets to introduce a lot of interesting characters, it just doesn’t always end up with time to tell you exactly where they ended up. Unless you witness their death-by-zombie demise. Take Rebecca Chambers, for instance.

Advisor for the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance, Special Tactics and Rescue Service prodigy, assigned to S.T.A.R.S. Bravo team. And totally missing in action. She originally appears as a supporting character to Chris Redfield in the 1996 original and then as a total badass in the prequel Resident Evil Zero where she is one the two protagonists. In The Umbrella Chronicles she’s paired with Richard Aiken and then things get a little fuzzy.

An easter egg found by searching Wesker’s desk no less than 50 freaking times in Resi 2 reveals a photo of Rebecca in a basketball outfit which some have taken as proof that she survived the events of the sequel.

Whether there’s a bit of a suspicious relationship going on there or not is the clue that launched a thousand conspiracy theory ships but theories are really all we have to go on. I mean Wesker did shoot her. But she was wearing a flak vest. Tricky.

You’d think witnesses of Umbrella’s nefarious schemes would get taken out pretty quickly, especially considering Nemesis was sent to take out the members of S.T.A.R.S. In the official canon archive book the status of each S.T.A.R.S. member is listed and though she is marked alive as of Resi 2, this is revised to ‘deceased’ as of Resi 3.

There are no details as to how or when she died but if you want the Capcom official answer, that’s all we’ve got for you.
