9 Video Game Titles Which Lied To You

8. Endless Ocean

Endless Ocean, a proto-Abzu, deep sea exploration relax-'em-up released for the Wii in 2007, is the most blatant case of fraudulent advertising since the film The Neverending Story. Though the azure expanse of the game's fictional South Pacific Manoa Lai Sea is certainly vast - and absolutely crammed to the gills with literal gills - it's by no means 'endless'.

Swim indefinitely towards a definite, watery doom, and you'll be saved from yourself by impassable cliffs the size of, well, cliffs. Technically, this means the ocean potentially does continue on infinitely, but you're not allowed to splash about in it.

Originally, the game was called Forever Blue, perhaps a more apt title given the sense of longing its bounded, 'boundless' ocean incites.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
