9 Video Games That Played With Your Emotions

Trico, the fictional creature from The Last Guardian, is the ultimate video game pet. A cross between a giant dog, a giant wombat, and a bird (seriously, do not try this cross-breeding at home), he's an absurdly gorgeous creation. Team Ico have previous form in designing such intricate beasts, but with Trico they've surpassed themselves.

Your adventures with Trico are about guiding him through dangerous situations and environmental puzzles. And while the gameplay isn't always on point - frustrating camera angles and controls are the biggest bug-bears - the relationship between a boy and his beast successfully elevates the game into something quite special.

Like a real pet, you can't help to form an emotional attachment to Trico. You'd have to have the heart of one of the stone soldiers in the game not to. And in the end, when you're forced to send him away from your village to protect his life, it's positively heart-wrenching.

Much like the loss of any childhood pet, you can't help to blub like a baby as the end credits roll.
