9 Ways Resident Evil 7 Is Already Better Than 6

2. We Already Care More About RE 7's Story, Heroes & Villains

Everyone loves the pulpy world of Wesker and the balloon-armed Chris Redfield, but across the years it feels increasingly like Capcom strived to make their games fit the same "Anything goes!" ethos of the movie universe, as oppose to letting the franchise continue from where the original trilogy left off.

Now granted, these older games contain some of the shlockiest voice acting and one-liners of all time, but it remains that the reason we love them is just as much down to the enemies and gameplay, as it is the characters. By the time RE 5 reached its climax, we were dodging screen-filling superpowered attacks from Wesker and punching boulders as Chris Redfield - it had lost all sense of relatability, forever trapped in this half-military action, half-camp comic book framework.

Now with RE 7, we've got Ethan - our everyman hero - looking for his wife, alongside the promise of an entirely new cast of characters backing things up. And that's before you delve into the Bakers, who are just about the most disgusting human beings seen in a video game in years.

I already want to turn the tides on them imprisoning Ethan in the 'kitchen scene' trailer, and you can guarantee some of the best moments in RE 7 will be when you finally figure out how to bring them down for good.
