There's a way to do '2D Dark Souls' - just look at Salt & Sanctuary for confirmation - because this abomination, which was given the go-ahead by the masters themselves, From Software, certainly isn't it.

Granted it was only made to promote Dark Souls 3 and forever existing for free on iOS and Android stores, it's quite literally unplayable. Even in its best state you're guiding a poorly animated sprite through various ugly environments, the only positive takeaway being that various bosses from the trilogy show up to skewer you in seconds.

It's supposed to be a wink and a nod to the fans, a "Hey we know what you like! Cheap deaths and impossible enemies, right? Oh, you little scamps!" But it comes across as just plain ugly, any potential charm being buried under a mess of code masquerading as a video game.
