After Skyrim: 10 Awesome Predictions for the Future of the Elder Scrolls Series

4. An Emphasis on Motion Capture

One complaint I always hear from the non-initiated is that Elder Scrolls, compared to other games on the market, looks sort of rubbish. And it€™s true; next to something like Assassin€™s Creed or Batman: Arkham City, Elder Scrolls does appear to be wearing kid gloves by comparison, particularly the character modelling. With Elder Scrolls, slowly but surely, Bethesda have been adding all the right elements to the mix in terms of gameplay, in terms of a fully immersive open world experience, but I think the next step needs to be bringing their presentation of their characters and NPC€™s more in line graphically with the current (and maybe even the next) generation of consoles. Motion capture, for me, is the way forward. Imagine each NPC interaction was physically performed by an actor as opposed to simply voiced and animated later on. Imagine interactions between said characters felt like they should be in a movie instead of a video game. This is what we€™re coming to expect more and more from the video game industry and I€™ve a feeling that if Bethesda don€™t join the mo-cap revolution soon, they may eventually end up missing the boat entirely.
