Agents Of Mayhem Review: 3 Ups & 7 Downs

1. An Unbelievable Amount Of Cringe

Remember every awkward E3 joke? Every time a given personality had that little bit too much pep and the punchline didn't land whatsoever?

That's Agents of Mayhem.

Granted, some of the comedy lands, but man, is it few and far between. Instead, you've got a whole boss fight dedicated to making "Uranus" jokes, a character saying "Catch you on the flippy-floppy!", a Shaft reference and loading screens where the agents give 'life advice', only for an overly loud guitar riff to kick in and a chorus choir sings, "Agents of May-heeeem."

You really have to ask yourself how Volition and Deep Silver view the average gamer.

Carefree individuals raised on lowest common denominator comedy that are totally cool with microtransactions and zero real game mechanics, content to see the numbers go up as they're rewarded with colourful items and skins?

I wish I could be that person, for such a blissful state of innocence would allow me to weather the storm that is the modern video game industry's push towards being as money-grubby as possible, and the perfectly serviceable - yet utterly passionless and sterile - fare that is Agents of Mayhem.
