8. It's A Loose Tie-In

Even as a tie-in that appeals to the most ardent nerds of the Alien mythos, the game will prove disappointing. It was stated pre-release that Colonial Marines would definitively incorporate itself into the franchise, specifically the second film, and it was hinted that the game would also have a link to Prometheus (the developers were allowed to view the script while planning the game). Though the game aims to explore what happened to Hicks and the residents of Hope's Colony in the aftermath of Aliens, what we get is very non-committal, keen to walk on egg shells around the series' narrative, rather than constructively collaborate on something worth buying into. Though the developers insist that it's a canonical entry to the franchise, it's difficult to recognise that after blasting through the campaign. There's little-to-no resolution to the story, and one can't help but think that we're going to get some additional Prometheus-related material show up as DLC you'll need to splash cash on (but absolutely shouldn't).
