Aliens Colonial Marines: 5 Reasons It Won't Suffer The Tie-In Curse

4. Sega And Gearbox Understand The Source Material

In every promotional video released thus far, Randy Pitchford, the CEO of Gearbox has a grin on his face so wide he could give the Grinch a run for his money. He shoots off lines of dialogue straight from the film flawlessly and in character. He references deleted scenes, incidental quotes and locations from the film/game as if they are in fact real life locations. All of this enthusiasm is capped off with an over-excited schoolboy giggle. In addition to this he mischievously (but openly) admits that he has repeatedly stolen from the Aliens franchise many times to influence his other (very successful) video games. He clearly knows his stuff and seems genuinely excited and geekily happy to be involved. It€™s not just him either as Gearbox€™s team of developers all appear to be relishing the opportunity to work on such a beloved license too. Brian Martel, the Chief Creative Officer, sat down with Ridley Scott and discussed the filmmaker's original concepts and storyboards. Martel was treated to the unexplored threads that, for whatever reason, did not make it into the final draft of Alien. Speculation is rife all over the web, that the narrative of Colonial Marines will even entail various links with Scott's recent Prometheus. To add further to these impressive credentials, several members of the original cast are reprising their roles via the use of voice acting and through their likeness being recreated in video-game form. These observations, for me, are a strong indicator that they, the game's creators, hold dear the very same things that you and I do. They appear to be aware of how important this project can potentially be to fans of the films and seem to want to do it justice. While the cynic in me could raise his head and accost this as just another marketing ploy of execs gushing and sucking up to the source material, they do seem to have a huge respect of what they are taking on and have clearly done their homework. "Outstanding. Now all we need is a deck of cards."
