Anthem Hands-On Beta Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs
Ups
5. Flight Is Incredibly Fun & Experimental
Anthem doesn't do a great job getting across just how much you can do with your Javelin mech overall, but quickly you'll realise there are two flight modes (in-motion and hover), plus a dodge button that in mid-air, results in some quick barrel rolls.
Immediately you'll start injecting this into combat, kicking off the ground and evading fire as you heal in mid-air, catching yourself from freefalling with a hover to unleash a missile barrage, or soaring into the centre of another pack of enemies with a devastating ground-pound.
It's here where Anthem plays its best card, and it's one that no other game has ever done with this much production value or playtesting. Bioware really have something with the minute-to-minute ground and air combat in its base form, and it genuinely feels like the Iron Man game Marvel fans have been dreaming about for decades.
