Assassin’s Creed: 5 Must-Plays & 5 That Suck

7. Must Play: Black Flag

Assassin's Creed Unity
Ubisoft

Seemingly more beloved with age, Black Flag marked a defining moment for the series. Opting to take to the high seas the new game managed to maintain the crisp and free-flowing nature of the previous titles, yet offer a new take on combat for players to master.

Black Flag has tremendous replayability, with a mammoth array of possible battles and quests to take on, it appears almost impossible to complete.

The diversity in the characters you encounter - each with their own unique flair - ensures that no matter how often you captain your ship and take to the seas, you're greeted with something new. With Havana, Kingston and Nassau all lovingly rendered (and littered with intimidating foes) the game is a masterpiece in colour and vibrancy.

That is, of course, without having to mention that you also explore expansive Mayan Ruins, shipwrecks, jungles and countless other set-pieces.

The game also saw the return of Assassin Recruitment. This only serves to aid in the argument that a return to the game is warranted.

Black Flag innovated something rich and diverse, but remains one of the most standalone, lighthearted titles. This means, should you want to, you can switch off your brain from the sometimes intimidating lore and escape to the seas, conquering ships aplenty as you go.
