Assassin's Creed: 10 Times The Templars Were Right
3. Shay Cormac Turns Against The Assassins - Assassin's Creed Rogue
Assassin's Creed Rogue is, besides a glorified DLC for Black Flag, a game that really goes out of its way to try and flip things on their heads and change everyone's perspectives on the Templar/Assassin debate. Instrumental to this is main character Shay Cormac, an Assassin-turned-Templar who players see the entire game through the eyes of.
Shay's loyalties to the Assassin way of life changed when he was tasked with recovering two Pieces of Eden that the Templars had stolen from Achilles Davenport and his Colonial Brotherhood. Though he had been musing over their methods prior to his arrival at the First Civilization Temple, the earthquake he triggered in pursuit of the artefacts brought about a whole new awareness for the innocent lives the Assassins were claiming in the pursuit of freedom.
His Brotherhood's inability and eventual refusal to deviate away from their methods really left Shay no choice but to turn rogue and eventually join up with the Templars. Constantly in search of a way of sparing innocents and helping others (even going as far as stopping the mighty Haytham Kenway from killing Achilles), the only place for someone like Shay was with the one group at the time committed to preserving peace: the Templars.
