Assassin's Creed 3 Preview: Everything We Know So Far

The Setting It just wouldn€™t be an Assassin€™s Creed game without a rich, vibrant historical setting to explore. And with that comes the opportunity to experience famous historical events in a way that€™s as far removed from a history lesson as can possibly be. Previous AC games have given players the chance to wreak stealthy havoc on Jerusalem during the Crusades, in Italy during the rise of the Borgia and with AC3, we get to mess about with America during the Revolution. Much like how Da Vinci popped up in ACII from time to time to aid Ezio in his quest, as you traverse a young America with Connor you can expect to see some famous faces from American history. Confirmed characters include: George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Charles Lee, Israel Putnam, General Lafayette, John Pitcairn, and William Prescott. Exactly what everyone will be doing is as yet unclear but it'll be fun to see how Ubisoft manage to interperet such a list of esteemed historical figures. Along with the pre-prescribed city action set in New York and Boston, there€™s also a brand new type of terrain to explore in the form of The Frontier. This is a huge open wilderness comprised of forests, fields, snowdrifts and wild animals on which a majority of the game will apparently take place. Ubisoft have been keen to talk about the sheer size of their new instalment, and this is where The Frontier€™s gameplay potential is really driven home. To put it into perspective, while the cities of New York and Boston are comparable in size to the cities in ACII, The Frontier in and of itself is 1.5 times the size of the entire Brotherhood map and comes complete with weather cycles that affect the setting (including cities) and in turn the gameplay dynamic. For example, lakes will freeze and become new terrain, snowdrifts will hamper soldiers and make it easier for you to beset them, or find you should you footprints be discovered. All evidence points to the fact that The Frontier really is a revolutionary playground packed with many unpredictable variables that will hopefully make for an exciting, frenetic and realistic experience in which suspension of disbelief is all but done for us. Chief executive officer at Ubisoft Yves Guillemot had this to say of ACIII€™s huge new game world at the game€™s unveiling: €œAssassin€™s Creed III features the franchise€™s most expansive setting so far, along with an exciting new hero and exponentially more gameplay. Whether you€™re a longtime fan of Assassin€™s Creed or if you€™re new to the franchise, you€™re going to be blown away by the scale and marvel of Assassin€™s Creed III.€ Well, he would say that€
