Assassin's Creed Syndicate: 10 Confirmed Features That Might Save The Franchise
Can Ubisoft Quebec navigate the flagship franchise through the brewing storm?
Ubisoft has accelerated the rate at which the Assassin's Creed franchise will hit the shelves. The commercial success of successive games aided by a willing fanbase has seen the production cycle of Assassin's Creed ramped up, to the point of releasing annual, bi-annual and franchise spin-off games, as well as expanding upon the wider universe with novels, movies shorts and a blockbuster in the pipeline. The humble successes of Altair in 2007, propelled Ubisoft to the forefront of the gaming industry, establishing one of the strongest gaming franchises in modern gaming. The lavish praises of innovative gameplay, picturesque settings and interesting narrative has comparatively diminished with the years gone by. Follow-ups have failed to garner the same levels critical success that distinguished their predecessors. This does not confine Assassin's Creed to a destiny of failure and mediocrity, however, the consensus is readily formed that the franchise has lost its sheen. Failure to innovate in several areas - such as locational setting, gameplay mechanics and gameplay narrative - have inevitably frustrated the loyal fans, undoubtedly plummiting to its lowest levels of approval following the release of Assassin's Creed: Unity. This has lead to calls amongst the gaming community, not for the franchise to ultimately disband, but to allow a significant period of review in an effort to consolidate the franchise and return with something truly innovative.
