Assassin's Creed: Syndicate Reviews - 12 Shocking Critical Reactions You Need To See
12. No Multiplayer, Companion App Content, Forced Microtransactions Or Uplay Login
"Syndicate features no multiplayer at all - neither the unique spin on competitive multiplayer nor the cooperative play that was added in Unity. [...] Also absent from Syndicate: the dozens of chests and bonus features that could only be unlocked via a second-screen app or joining the Assassin's Creed Initiates group. The game now features a single option in the menu to log in to a "Ubisoft Club" account and unlock a few extras, but it never pushes it on the player." - Philip Kollar, Polygon
Step one on rebuilding the bridge between the fans and the developers was to remove all the unnecessary tat in Unity that fell under mobile companion apps, unnecessary website logins and microtransactions to aid with you unlocking weapons. Syndicate still features microtransactions, but many reviewers note that they're rarely going to be presented in a way that doesn't require you to seek them out. As a result, the progression through Syndicate feels more natural and less money-grubbing - essentially making the 'feel' of playing far more natural and rewarding. Multiplayer has been ditched too, as both the hide n' seek modes of old and Unity's dreadful campaign-style infiltrations were only ever enjoyable for a few minutes at a time. All four of these things are a massive step in the right direction - and who'd of thought... a game, from Ubisoft, where you unlock everything simply by playing it. What a time to be alive.
