Assassin's Creed: Unity - 8 Unforgivable Issues That Insult The Fans

3. Zero Quality Control

It's one thing to have technical problems abounding your title, but it's another entirely to put the blinders on and convince yourself you're doing 'what the fans want' when we repeatedly state pretty much everything about the core experience needs an overhaul. For all the talk of a 'new animation system' powering the Unity experience, when it comes down to it right from the get-go you'll still be doing the same missions you always have been. This time through Ubisoft have added in the occasional Hitman-style multi-entrance assassination, that along with some half-baked murder mystery side missions are the only noticeable new features. But with both L.A. Noire and Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments doing the latter, more original thing far better, they feel more like something thrown in for the sake of it, rather like Revelations' tower-defence mini-games. The main issue here is the refusal to take a year off and really polish up every part of the game, both engine and design. As we've mentioned, technical problems abound with frame-rate, texture pop and character models soaring through the air, but in addition it barely feels as though Ubi actually took any notice of their market research-style 'Rate this mission' screens from Black Flag. They make a return in Unity once again, but what's the point in implementing this feedback loop if it's then going to be ignored? Mission types need a drastic and complete overhaul, along with the little there is of planned assassinations here being brought back to the front of the experience. What we have right now is a literal case of quantity over quality. And what the hell happened to trying to do something meaningful with the modern-day elements?
