Assassin's Creed Valhalla: 10 HUGE Questions Ubisoft Must Answer
8. Is Basim The New Modern Day Protagonist?
With Layla’s fate all but sealed by the time Eivor’s story wraps up, the Assassin’s Creed series has left a new opening for its modern day protagonist. But could this role already have been filled?
While Layla was unable to escape the Isu machine, Basim was. And it’s Basim who we take control of whenever leaving the Animus at this point.
Introduced to players near the start of the game, Basim is a Hidden One who, alongside his protégé Hytham, travels to England with the Raven Clan to combat the Order Of Ancients prevalent there.
However, in a not-so-surprising twist, Basim was revealed to have ulterior motives (which we’ll get back to momentarily). He attacks Eivor and Sigurd at the temple but is ultimately defeated when Eivor attaches him to the machine.
With his consciousness kept alive for over a thousand years, Basim was able to trick Layla into releasing him. By using Layla’s staff, he was able to avoid death and return to the world like nothing had happened.
It is heavily implied that Basim is still up to no good, which could also suggest that he could be the next major antagonist.
Whatever his future role, we cannot wait to see him again.
