Avengers Review: 3 Ups & 8 Downs

6. Mission Design Is Straight Out Of Anthem

One of the biggest and most obvious issues across the board is mission design. Every single one revolves around defeating waves of enemies, defending a point while JARVIS hacks something, occasionally tackling a high-level miniboss or smashing a handful of marked locations.

It's everything you hated about vanilla Destiny, and precisely what made Anthem so sleep-inducingly dull.

Simply put: These "mission goals" are rote at best, and off-putting at worst. There's nothing that forces you to play as the Avengers; nothing that requires tactics to unlock or progress.

You'll be grinding out faction rep for vendors back at base, trying to get enough points for a skin or new takedown, but the reality of what you're doing moment-to-moment is utterly lacking.
