Banjo-Kazooie: Ranking Every Level From Worst To Best
8. Clanker's Cavern
Now, we get into the levels that are actually good...well, sort of.
Clanker's Cavern is an okay-at-best level that suffers mainly from the fact that it's primarily underwater. While not a difficult level by any stretch, the water makes it a far more frustrating and time-consuming endeavor than it needs to be.
The worst part of this level is easily the Gloop section, where Banjo has to swim through a large key three times to help Clanker get some air. The issue with this is that there is little room for error thanks to it being so deep underwater, and Gloop's air bubbles are very easy to swim past or miss entirely. Couple that with Notes and a Jinjo at the bottom of the water, and you've got quite a lot of unnecessary stress.
On a larger scale, the bleak visuals of the level all appear so similar that it's difficult to recall where you have been and where you still need to go. Players often find themselves swimming around aimlessly through the same pipes they've swum through multiple times, trying to figure out where the last remaining collectibles could be. And that's just no fun.
Overall, Clanker's Cavern is not a bad level, but after the first two levels, it was kind of a letdown.
