Put those pitchforks down, for once this is a discussion on Mass Effect 3 that's not about the ending. Anyway, remember in that game where the main narrative was "Hey, Earth's getting decimated by alien forces, go unite the galaxy's races and save us" - and how that made you feel like you couldn't indulge in any of the side activities along the way, for fear of not 'playing it properly'? Every mission you partook in that wasn't benefitting those back home (and there were a lot of fetch quests and pointless tat to get stuck into) meant thousands were dying in the process, and in Arkham Knight you'll ping-pong from chasing down Barbara to stopping a bomb threat, to rescuing Gordon and then trying to track a location and defend the GCPD. It's all very time-intensive stuff (or feels like it should be), and as the driving narrative heats up only for Alfred to repeatedly say "Now would be the perfect time to reestablish your control of the city!" before referring to open cases, it instead has the opposite effect, as you hope for some post-credits allowance to mop up all the left over side-missions when all's said and done.
