Batman: Arkham Knight - 8 Huge Flaws Nobody Wants To Admit

7. If The Arkham Knight Isn€™t A Named Character, It€™ll Suck

Spring-boarding off that notion of the roster getting a little tired by this point, everyone's been round the block on these Arkham Knight identity theories to the point where fans are convinced its someone like Jason Todd or Damien Wayne, despite neither of them being in the previous games. Rocksteady have repeatedly stated it's a whole new character - they even ditched previous DC-scribe Paul Dini to do their own script - which means they're really focussing on creating a completely new story with an appropriately lethal Bat-felling villain. Now, this could work - 2011's Court of Owls was a brilliant take on an organisation working just under Bruce's nose the entire time, but it stands that doing away with Joker and falling back on a new character just isn't anywhere near as rewarding as chucking out some of the aforementioned suggestions. Comic fans and franchise fans in general want a suitably ridiculous pay-off for the marketing campaign that's surrounding all this, and MAYBE they can make a newcomer work if there are some ties to the Waynes to give him some weight, but after reading the tie-in comic the AK so far is just another "Muahaha"-style, talking-to-himself-about-Batman's-impending-death type deal.
