Batman: Arkham Origins - 10 Coolest Easter Eggs, Secrets And References Explained
1. Beware The Court Of Owls
Of all the easter eggs in Origins, this one is obviously the best (and also the most pivotal, given what we know so far about WB Montreal's upcoming Batman title).
There are two specific references to the Court of Owls in Arkham Origins, the shadowy cabal that's ruled Gotham for hundreds of years. The Court only made their debut in 2011, but they instantly became a beloved aspect of Batman's comics and ended up finding their way into Origins shortly thereafter.
During the first boss fight with Bane in the Royal Hotel, two large statues resembling Talons - the Court's ruthless assassins - can be seen on the building's balcony. Some have also speculated that the Court could be hiding out in the hotel's thirteenth floor (their lair was on the thirteenth floor of Wayne Tower in the comics), but that'll likely remain unconfirmed.
Elsewhere, players will also be able to find a book of old Gotham nursery rhymes in the city's main bridge. The page is flicked open to one about the Court, and the old nursery rhyme that's been passed down through all Gotham's generations:
"Beware the Court of Owls, that watches all the time, Ruling Gotham from a shadowed perch, behind granite and lime. They watch you at your hearth, they watch you in your bed. Speak not a whispered word about them, or they'll send the Talon for your head."
The Court's video game debut has been years in the making. Here's hoping that when Montreal finally get to deliver on these references, it'll have been truly worth the wait.
