Batman Arkham Origins: 2 Reasons It'll Beat Its Predecessors (And 2 Reasons It Won't)

batman arkham origins Two long years after the release of Arkham City, we're just months away from the release of its follow up, Batman: Arkham Origins. Origins has been a victim of high expectations, and why wouldn't it be? Arkham Asylum received rave reviews with a rating of 92/100 from Metacritic and 9.3/10 given by IGN. It's sequel, Arkham City, followed in its footsteps and may have even outdone its predecessor by becoming the game with the highest score on Metacritic with a score of 96/100 and an IGN rating of 9.5/10. Both games are exceptional and raised the bar for superhero video games. One of the best features of these games is the combat style. It's very different from any other superhero video games I've ever experienced. The fight moves flow very nicely, and you can use impressive features such as cape stuns and take downs to beat thugs. There are a variety of different ways to take down the inmates of Arkham, and variety is something that is important in a game, as it keeps things fresh and also means that it's still fun when you replay the game. It's very difficult to choose between them, as they both have their strong points. In my view, Arkham Asylum has better villains: other than the obvious Joker and Bane, you have villains such as Killer Croc, Scarecrow and Poison Ivy... unfortunately in the sequel, Killer Croc and Scarecrow are restricted to mere cameos, and you only confront Ivy as Catwoman. Arkham City does have new villains as such The Penguin and Mr Freeze, but the showdowns with them aren't as good as those with the villains in Asylum. One thing City does have over Asylum, though, is the map: in Asylum you're restricted to medical buildings and small outdoor spaces, but City completely changes that, which really enhances the play experience. We all expect big things from Origins, of course, but there are some things that we already know the developers have done with it which could result in a noticeable decrease in quality (but then again, there are new additions which could overshadow those minor faults). Let's take a look....
