Batman: Arkham VR - 10 Big Things We Already Know

7. It's Basically A Huge Expansion Of Detective Mode

This was a feature that never really received a great deal of expansion throughout the Arkham trilogy. It was a fantastic premise - one that saw Minority Report-esque crime scene analysis interspersed with more conventional detective elements - but it held the player's hand way too much. You weren't so much the world's greatest detective as you were a P.I who still hadn't gotten rid of his L plates, but maybe VR has now solved that problem.

It still sounds as though players will have to pause and rewind crime scene reconstructions in the same linear manner we're all used to, but there is a hope that not everything will be laid out in front of players in an obvious fashion. No one really wants to play 'spot the shiny thing and scan to progress', even if you are doing it in a multi-million dollar military-grade Bat Suit.

Still, it's promising that Rocksteady are dedicating such a large amount of time to the mode now. Obviously because combat wouldn't work in a VR setting, but irrespective of that, Batman's detective elements do form a big chunk of the character. He isn't just a brute, he's a brute with brains, and to have that quiet reflective element placed front and centre to the experience is a remarkably fantastic gamble. I can only hope that it pays off.
