There's always that inherent discussion when it comes to games based on actual wars: Should gamers feel bad that they're basically being entertained by the real-life massacre of millions of people?

Well, to its credit, Battlefield 1's campaign engages fully with the idea of 'war as Hell', and mostly downplays the fist-pumping heroism that's popular in the genre.

However, there is an undeniable tonal dissonance between the more muted nature of the campaign and the bombastic mood of the multiplayer, which is all about awesome set-pieces and slaughtering a fleet of enemy soldiers in the coolest fashion possible.

Now, this is somewhat unavoidable given the nature of the game, but the mood differs substantially between the two modes, which can make switching between them feel a little weird for a short while.
