"Weapon dynamics in Battlefield 1 aren’t as much of a throwback as the setting might suggest - there are plenty of automatic options in addition to the semi-automatic and bolt-action weapons that seem appropriate for WWI. Whether this is historically accurate, it feels internally consistent, at least. Battlefield 1 is less twitch oriented, and more considered than other competitive FPS games." - Polygon
"I very much liked the unique collection of weapons, from double-barrel SMGs to mini-pistols, and their sound design is top-notch. There’s a weight to them that just doesn’t exist in more modern/futuristic shooters, and it’s refreshing to be able to play a game without thermal scanning or holographic sights or attack drones and the like. It’s a much more simplistic affair, yet it’s still tough to rise to the top of the heap." - Forbes

Whilst it sounds like DICE have taken some liberties in upgrading the rate of fire on many weapons for the sake of gameplay, little touches like having to manually load your sniper rifle or revolver bullet-by-bullet only add to the immersion.

Warfare in WWI should feel arduous and different from that of the last couple of Battlefields, and it sounds like DICE have nailed that aspect, at least.
