Battlefield 2042 Specialists EXPLAINED: Everything You Need To Know
1. Countless Combinations
While Specialists come readily equipped with their own gadgets and gizmos, every character has one free equipment slot.
DICE's senior design director, Daniel Berlin, explained that even a recon character such as Casper could also rock up to the battlefield using both their tactical drone and a heap of C4.
To add further customisation to the already more diverse classes, Battlefield 2042 allows players to equip any gun regardless of Specialist or class. For example; Webster, who utilises the grappling hook seen in the gameplay trailer, could find new vantage points to snipe from or swing in guns blazing with a shotgun or SMG.
All of this is done to give players ultimate freedom in how they play. Berlin explains the decision for all of this came from Battlefield players typically choosing a class simply because they preferred that class's primary weapon.
The custom ability loadouts and more relaxed squad roles combined with Battlefield 2042's weapon plus system will ensure that no two operators will play exactly the same, keeping combat relatively fresh and exciting.
And that is everything DICE and EA have unveiled so far in regards to Specialists. It is safe to say that the new customisation settings will provide a much-needed shake-up to Battlefield's traditional squad system.
