Borderlands 3 Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs
4. Vehicles Are Great Fun
The thing you want from any open-world video game vehicle is experimentation.
Where something like Gears 5 gives you the supremely plain-feeling "Skiff" - a heavy-duty parasail-equipped rig with no boost or weaponry, Borderlands 3's vehicle mechanics extend to an entire loot system.
Alongside staples like cannons, machine guns and nitro-boosts - plus plenty of ramps to stunt off when moving - any vehicle you steal can be stripped for parts, to fold into your next ride.
It creates a neat, almost Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts sensibility where you're thinking of vehicle assembly just as much as enjoying the physics of them in motion.
In short, this nails everything Rage 2 was going for and missed the mark on - an extension of what went before, and the perfect connective tissue between combat scenarios.
