Borderlands 3 Wishlist: 10 Things That Must Happen

9. Radically Different Vault Hunters

There's something to be said of the authenticity of Borderlands 2's gang of Vault Hunters. Although new to the scene, they exercise many of the skills of their forebears: a strategy-minded Siren, an adaptive Commando, a precise and calculative Assassin, and a musclebound meathead who likes hitting things. The Pre-Sequel breaks things up with Athena and Fragtrap, the most distinguished of the game's characters, while Wilhelm and Nisha play similarly to Commando and Assassin, respectively. In an overly familiar world, this proved to be one of the Pre-Sequel's best and most refreshing qualities, which speaks volumes about where Borderlands 3 should aim. Borderlands 2 began exploring melee-centric combat through Zero and DLC character Krieg, but there's still room for more. And although everyone loves things that explode, we've also yet to see a true explosion specialist (Tiny Tina notwithstanding). There's plenty of room for new archetypes and skill trees, and the new consoles (and PC - can't forget that one) are the place to debut them.

A freelance games writer, you say? Typically battling his current RPG addiction and ceaseless perfectionism? A fan of horror but too big a sissy to play for more than a couple of hours? Spends far too much time on JRPGs and gets way too angry with card games? Well that doesn't sound anything like me.
