Bored of Gaming? 1.21 Jigawatts Your Game Play

Am I onto a remedy for gamer's block? Or should I just be quiet and enjoy how awesome games are today?

Sandbox. Sandbox. Sandbox. The sandbox is fun. The sandbox is infinite. The world is molding clay in your hands with it. The sandbox rules the gaming world. The sandbox is boring me. I know it's silly but new games today are leaving me with what I like to call gamer's block. I think to myself, €œHey self. What game are we going to play today?€ I ponder and ponder and weigh my options. Note to the audience: It is probably helpful for everyone to know that I am an RPG freak. I love RPGs. What's that? You want to spend the afternoon comparing battle systems of Final Fantasy VII with Star Ocean Till the End of Time? Well grab a comfy chair and a cold beverage and let's have at it. This might be partly to blame for my problem. I pick up a well known new RPG. I could play this but it will take me forever to get to do anything fun in it. Plus there are so many options I don't know what to pick to do in the game. I set RPG down. Pick up well known and popular puzzle game. This could be fun and I love the soundtrack for this one. But I don't want to think that much, I just want to pick up and play. Oh oh oh. I got it. That new installment of that common save the world from bad things FPS. It gets so repetitive so quickly and all my friends are busy. Sad face. I just do not know what to play. This is pathetic. Games are suppose to be fun and relaxing not a taxing life decision. But that's how it feels sometimes for me as a €œseasoned€ video game player. Games are so big and awesome today that sometimes I feel lost and do not know where to begin. So what's the solution? How do I grab the game world by the reins and steer it toward a fun and happy game playing future? The answer, at least for me, was to look into the past. 1.21 Jigawatts style. I decided to look at one of the older consoles that have been forgotten in our Next Gen world. If you think about it it makes sense. How many games are made for each console or for the computer that we never get to play or never even hear about. The Gamecube itself came out with some many titles I am still baffled by it. So my flux capacitor game was Final Fantasy Adventure for the Game Boy. I had never heard of this game and I definitely should have. It was exactly what I needed in my video game slump. It refreshed me to start playing other games. If you have not played this game I think it is worth the hunt for it. To me the game seemed fresh and innovative, especially for when it was released. It plays like a mixture of a Zelda game and Crystalis, another great game all gamers should play. But with Final Fantasy mixtures and creatures thrown in. The dialogue and story line was a bit weak at times but the game play was addicting. I loved the fact that I had to change weapons in order to hurt certain enemies and that some weapons could get past monsters defenses while others, while more powerful, could not. This was fun especially in a Zelda like game. Not to mention your weapons interacted with the world environment in many ways. Granted I did beat the game in a day and a half, but I was only able to do it because I was so obsessed with the game. So for me the problem has been solved. And it only took a 20 year old game to do it. I am now currently playing another game I missed, Borderlands, and am enjoying every minute of it. What does the rest of the world think? Am I onto a remedy for gamer's block? Or should I just be quiet and enjoy how awesome games are today?
