Black Ops 2 is set to bring in more elements of role-playing games, with player choices and consequences promising more weight to gameplay: the game will demand that you take care of your fellow soldiers, making decisions that will affect them and their well-being and generally giving you more responsibility. Thankfully, that suggests that the development team at Treyarch are invested in making Black Ops 2 more interactive than Modern Warfare 3 was - though that game was a triumph of visuals and had some astoundingly good gameplay set-pieces, the lack of depth and the over-abundance of cut-scenes meant that the solo campaign felt oddly hollow at times. There is certainly some room in the marketplace for a game that melds the best elements of RPG gaming with the clout and comparatively more disposable entertainment of Call of Duty, and hopefully Black Ops 2 will be that game. That also hopefully means that Treyarch are less focused on the casual shooter market that contributed some way to the problems of Modern Warfare 3 - if they can pull it off, and keep everyone happy, they will have a critical hit on their hands.
