Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3 Beta - 12 Things You Need To Know

12. Specialist Is Awesome...When It Works

One of the major additions to BO3 is that the player must pick one of nine Specialist characters before going online, with each possessing a unique weapon and ability, one of which can be selected for combat. These weapons and abilities are then unlocked for a short time mid-match by racking up kills and points, and even if you're doing horribly, they will still become available over time, but just take longer. At their best, the Specialists are awesome: the best weapons include Gravity Spikes (which the player digs into the ground and levels any enemy in the area) and the Sparrow (a bow that fires explosive rounds), while the most impressive abilities include Glitch (allowing the player to teleport to their spawn point with the press of two buttons) and Rejack (which brings the player back to life after death). While these weapons frequently result in one-hit kills and the abilities can give you an insane edge against the enemy, they can prove frustrating on occasion simply because they're so easy to waste. If you throw down the Gravity Spikes at the slightly wrong angle, you'll miss the enemy and get shot down easily, while an impressive ability that makes the player invulnerable to torso gunfire lasts only a few seconds. Plus, having to press two buttons together at once to activate (L1 + R1 on the PS4 version) is a little awkward given how you'll usually have to do it once an enemy has already shown up on your screen and is firing at you.
