Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare - 12 Things Nobody Wants To Admit

8. Spec-Ops Has So Much Wasted Potential

Though the older Modern Warfares were revered for their campaigns and competitive multiplayer suites, Spec-Ops was always an important pillar of the experience. The co-op mode debuted in the second game, and when it was revealed to be returning for the latest release, everyone was pleased that Activision hadn't forgotten about it.

Even better, the original plan was to go bigger and better than before, with a unique open-world structure that would double down on the co-op coordination. That ambition is present in the final product, but it's clear something went terribly wrong along the way.

There are nuggets of great ideas in there, but at the moment they're bogged down by baffling game design. For one, the difficulty is overbearing, and anything other than perfection can lead to endless frustration.

In some ways, it feels like Modern Warfare was too ambitious for its own good. Between the new multiplayer modes, the campaign and this expanded Spec-Ops suite, perhaps Infinity Ward were simply stretched too thin.
