CM Punk WWE 2K15 Role Was Decided Before His Walkout

Punk is apparently amused by his feature role in 2K15.

CM Punk's feature role in WWE 2K15 was decided upon more than a year ago, reports f4wonline.com. Punk took to Twitter yesterday to respond to the news, posting a lengthy "hahahaha". There was perhaps a mixture of genuine amusement and sarcasm in that tweet. The irony of Punk being a major star of 2K15's theme mode, ten months after he walked out, is proving quite the talking point for wrestling fans. However, there's no sign that Punk's coming back. He likely found out about the 2K15 news just like everyone else did when it started trending on social media. There's no current indication of how 2K15 will work out for Punk in terms of royalties. As a feature part of the game, he should in theory be entitled to a significant paycheck. However, he may well have forfeited that right when he walked out on his contract six months ago. There's the potential for a legal battle to ensue, which Dave Meltzer hinted at just last week. The problem with that is Punk's wife AJ Lee still works for WWE. It's doubtful that Punk would want to take any action which would potentially put her in an awkward position. This unexpected twist is good for the gamers at least. 2K Showcase mode will allow fans to play through the epic Cena vs Punk rivalry from 2011 to 2013. Video footage and interviews will be intertwined with the gameplay, giving an almost documentary like feel to the game. That should be a lot of fun. Who could have ever predicted that WWE would still be promoting CM Punk's likeness so long after his departure. WWE must either feel very awkward about it, or perhaps slightly satisfied, viewing it as a final way to stick it toward the tempestuous former star.
