Complete History Of WWE Video Games - Part 3 (2001-2005)

WWE Road to Wrestlemania 18 (GBA) 2002

03 Road to Wrestlemania Road to Wrestlemania x8 was a direct sequel to the older Road to Wrestlemania on the Game Boy Advance. As usual, the handheld games were still not great representations of the time, but in fairness it was for the most part an improvement over the original. It couldn't compete with the 3D engines now available on consoles, though the developers did a passable job creating a new 2D one. 15 wrestlers could fight in 7 arenas, making use of a new animation system. The sprites were fluid and alright representations of their on screen counterparts. They did look a bit strange, and somewhat puppet like due to the way in which the different body parts were animated. Like the graphics, gameplay was obviously a far cry from the console games, though again were improved from the other games in the series. For once, they focused more on timing than button mashing, making for a much more enjoyable experience than the portable games that preceded it.
