Complete History Of WWE Video Games - Part 3 (2001-2005)

WWE Crush Hour (PS2/Gamecube) March 2003

08 Crush Hour This was another completely different direction for the WWE license, releasing a driving combat game instead of the tried and tested wrestling simulators. Crush Hour was released on PS2 and Gamecube and was the story of Vince McMahon finally getting his way and taking over all the TV networks. Not content with just owning all the channels, Vince also decided to start putting out original programming, including a destruction derby channel that forced the WWE Superstars to take part. Taking control of themed cars based on wrestlers, the simple aim was to destroy opponents. There were various pick ups to take each other out but gameplay didn't get much deeper than that. It did have a career mode and JR calling the carnage but in truth it was doomed from the start. WWE fans wanted a wrestling game and fans of this driving genre didn't want much to do with wrestling. Plus it wasn't as good as other games in the genre like Twisted Metal. Wasn't great at the time and it certainly isn't great now.
