Crash Bandicoot: Ranking Every Game From Worst To Best

14. Crash Nitro Kart

Expanding doesn't automatically equate to exceptionalism and this misguided declaration of bigger is better proves that in heaps and droves, with its incredulously unappeasing design and the flaws that come with it.

Of course it was always going to be a strenuous task following up - let alone improving - the seminal Crash Team Racing. A game that still remains one of the best kart racers of all time, with this successor being unable to capitalise on that success.

The best way to euphemistically elude to just how big the gulf in quality could be best surmised by saying that CTR is the Aliens of the franchise and Nitro Kart is every exploitative feature that came after. The decline is steep; so what makes this such a stalling effort?

The myriad of glitches make the game unbearable at times. The intervals disguised as cut scenes are so impersonal in comparison to the former, in which bosses would greet you personally and directly, and the tedious tracks feel particularly uninspired.

Trying to capture lightning in a bottle twice is as ambitious as it is valiant regarding Nitro Kart, but at best, it feels like they were trying to retain the license rather than attain critical acclaim.
