6. Use Masks Or Turbo To Maintain Speed On Shortcuts

Name any CTR level and there'll be a bevy of obvious shortcuts - plus those you can makeshift into time-savers by cutting straight through a corner or section of the track itself.

For these, they'll sap your speed down to a crawl if you're not prepared with suitable amounts of boost, so either make sure you're going in with some boost already built up from a turbo pad or drift - or use an item instead.

Turbo power-ups and masks are what you want.

The latter not only makes you immune from incoming projectiles and lets you wipe out other racers if you touch them, but bust out Aku-Aku/Uka-Uka and you can sail right over everything from grassy knolls to every other part of the environment you're supposed to avoid.
