For as great as The Witcher series was, Geralt being a pre-defined hero always made character-building feel a touch more limited than in other RPGs. Sure, you could tailor his story to your choosing, decide on his abilities and opt to be either a saint or a jerk, but it was always difficult to shake the idea that the character was never really yours.

Cyberpunk 2077 on the other hand is letting you tweak just about every aspect of the protagonist, V, to your choosing. Not only can you select their gender and appearance, but their whole personality and role in the world is essentially on you to figure out. CD Projekt Red have confirmed that V will be an up-and-coming hired gun making a name for themselves in Night City, but the way they accomplish that is entirely up to you.

Adding to the customisable options are apartments that you can buy throughout the open world, acting as a safe haven where you can change outfits and tweak your mercenary's style and skills. It's a small addition, but it will no doubt go a long way in making this world feel like a real, lived-in place that you exist in even when you're not shooting guys in the face.
