The initial trailer for Cyberpunk went largely over people's heads due to the fact that CD Projekt Red had not reached the level of fame that came with The Witcher 3.

All of this changed when the game was re-announced at E3 by none other than the internet’s favourite celebrity, Keanu Reeves.

What followed was a wave of fans suddenly infatuated with this new IP, in part due to all of the free marketing done by the “You’re breathtaking!” memes.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt had already put CD Projekt Red within the good graces of the gaming community that a new game from them was welcomed with open arms. Even the expansions for the Witcher were met with overwhelming amounts of praise with many claiming that the studio was a shining example of game development.

The combination of a company that could seemingly do no wrong with a starring role for the man beloved by all culminated into one of the most discussed events in gaming history.

The impressive 40-minute demo that followed showcased a mix of features ranging from elements taken straight from the table-top game, mixed with Grand Theft Auto-like driving, all wrapped up in a neon Deus Ex/Fallout RPG shooter.

At the time, gamers were craving another story-driven open world to sink their teeth into. The E3 announcement landed right in between such brilliant titles as God of War and Marvel’s Spider-Man, with things looking good for the world of single-player gaming.
