10. Whoops, I Tripped

Congratulations! You've just beaten that big ugly demon thingy that's been destroying you routinely for the past five hours and are currently running around your room crying with joy and doing a little jig with happiness. In game, you've just got a nice new load of souls that you can use to level up and are mere steps from the bonfire when the completely unthinkable happens. In your joy, after rolling about in game, you've managed to somehow launch yourself completely off a cliff and totally kill yourself by splatting down on the ground below. Every single person who has ever played Dark Souls has succumbed more than once to the dreaded cliff death. Whether self-inflicted due to your own stupidity or a result of an enemy whacking you with a huge attack and throwing you off the edge, the cliff is one of the greatest enemies in the game. For many, their first cliff death will be just next to Firelink Shrine, where you can execute a little hop over to a section under the bridge to collect an item. Do it wrong and you'll manage to roll instead of executing the jump animation, promptly rolling off into the abyss below. I'd wager that more than most Dark Souls players have also managed to fall off a cliff and executed a daring raid to recover their soul stash over a deadly dangerous drop, only to once again completely fall off the cliff and lose everything. Some evil players also play mindgames and completely troll newcomers to the series by placing a helpful message down on the ground near the edge of a cliff advising the player to 'Try jumping off.' Obviously that advice is stupid and I'd never follow it. Ok, I did. Betcha you did too!
