Dark Souls 3: 12 Essential Tips New Players Need To Know
8. Know When To Run (And Drink Estus On Ladders)
You'll quickly learn that these games are all about patience. Your greatest enemy is yourself and the tendency you have to slice through enemies as fast as possible. Simply put, this approach will get you killed, and you'll want to always hang back, assess the situation and always be prepared to flee and do all that again.
Many enemies will pursue you only to a point, so just dart around corners or break sight to slow them down. This way you can free up enough time to chug an Estus, spin back around and ambush them instead.
Another tip the game doesn't tell you (of which there are quite a lot) is that you can actually drink Estus on a ladder. As simple as it sounds, if you know where a ladder is and can get back to it, gaining the vertical edge will give you critical breathing room from all except projectile-throwing enemies.
From here you can refill your health, regain your composure... and then double-tap your sprint button to detach and plummet into a devastating drop-attack with R1/RB.
That'll teach 'em!
