3. Intricate Training Mode
One of the easiest ways fighting games can pull in newcomers is by having a robust and intricate training mode. A lot of newer fighting games have included such a mode to make sure newcomers understand the mechanics behind the game and why certain moves/attacks are beneficial in one situation but not in another.
DOA 5 will employ a very good training mode too. It won't just teach you combo moves, but also teach you frame data and hitbox detection. Don't worry if these terms confuse you, as they will be explained much better than I could ever hope to here in this short space. You will also be able to control the A.I.'s opponent behaviour, meaning you can test out moves and determine which are safe when blocked or set the A.I. to recover quickly from any staggers. Story mode will also serve as a training tool. Bonus missions will appear during story mode to help you adjust to the game's mechanics. Completing these bonus missions will unlock more, providing plenty of incentive to undertake them. You'll also gain titles that you can display online to invoke virtual fear into your online opponents! Speaking of online, remember how I mentioned Online Dojo a while back? Well, another great addition to training mode is the ability to train online. Training online allows you to seek help from other players and have them react to your various training needs. This will allow a smoother training process as you can instantly tell someone to block or counter, instead of having to always use the menu to change the A.I.'s behaviour in offline training. A very welcome addition.
