Dear Bethesda: 10 Things I Want To See In The Elder Scrolls: Online
8. Access To Mods
Yes, those are lightsabers. As a console owner, without heavily modifying my PS3, I don't have access to the insane amount of content lying around that PC players do. The lightsabers above are just a glimpse - one can add new sets of armor, build weapons and houses from scratch, redesign holds, even create their own missions and storylines, lending a small form of validity to anyone who has a headcanon. That being said, why not us? Bethesda sells plenty of console titles, and although modding is prolific in the PC department, why not have a small team at Bethesda that moderates certain mods and releases them as DLC? Offering an abundance of ways to customize your experience while playing the game is only going to extend the playability of the title, and it's just another element of gameplay that someone can get lost in, tweaking their armor and weapons and magic JUST right before they choose their allegiance and head off to restore order to Tamriel.Link didn't need it anymore.
Now, giving the console community the same customization options as the PC community currently enjoys is obviously not without challenges - the three variations (XBOX One, PlayStation 4, and PC) will always differ. Furthermore, the sheer number of available mods would be a difficult task for Bethesda to suddenly moderate, because just developing The Elder Scrolls gives them plenty to have on their plate to begin with. Combine that with the number of modifications made to character models, textures, gameplay, and various other elements - it's admittedly a lot for them to handle, but it wouldn't be without reward: if some of the mods were repurposed for consoles and distributed just as easily, console consumers would have further incentive to enjoy a fresh experience. New weapons, designs, enemies, and just things to add to a game for the hell of it. Why not?
