Death Stranding: 9 Steps To Understanding Hideo Kojima's First Trailer

4. The Birth Scar

Sexuality and birth especially are two things Kojima has tackled before - Metal Gear fans will remember character The Boss sporting a snake-shaped birth scar as part of a revealing costume, ostensibly showing that it's nothing to be ashamed of, and can in fact be a positive, identifying trait.

Now for Reedus, naturally it's interesting to ponder on the idea of (somehow) men being able to give birth, but also what a cesarian birth represents in this context. If the assumption is that a birth has to happen no matter what, Hideo could be making a comment on population control, which factors into various countries and their ongoing problems with that exact subject matter.

If the world we're seeing is a microcosmic metaphor for all human life and global issues, the fact the baby was forced out of Reedus is a direct example of mankind's inability to withhold from continuing our own bloodlines and draining resources in the process.
