Deathloop PS5 Review: 8 Ups & 3 Downs
3. Dynamic Levels Packed With Secrets
It's more than just trinkets and guns that you take through to new runs though, but certain world events and knowledge. The brilliance of Deathloop's mission structure is that - apart from killing the visionaries - you only have to do set up missions once.
This knowledge, whether it's learning exactly where a Visionary will be at a certain time of day, or finding a code to a door, is archived after discovering it, minimising any needless repetition.
In each run, you're only really limited by your own imagination. Arkane have done a superb job of making the world of Deathloop incredibly interactive and reactive, with each system and mechanic creating a domino effect if pushed in the right way. The gameplay absolutely excels when you're thinking on the spot and improvising, using the world around you to your advantage. Of course, knowing exactly where the opportunities to do this are comes as familiarise yourself with the level.
There are so many secrets to the world of Deathloop that are a joy to discover as well. Each area is packed with detail, and following threads to completion result in mini-stories and some of the game's most memorable moments.
