Destiny: 11 Reasons It Doesn't Live Up To The Hype

5. It's Too Linear

Destiny6 In addition to the woefully repetitive missions, Destiny is just far too linear given the scope and promise of an epic adventure that Bungie promised. They told us we'd get to visit Mars and several other planets, though in actuality, the vast majority of the time we're dropped off at the exact same spot (or somewhere just around the corner) and forced to shoot through a similar objective-based skirmish to the one we just played. That Bungie thought this would be something audiences would just accept is totally ridiculous. Basically, where's the sense of exploration and adventure? We're not exactly asking for Skyrim here, just that the individual missions on each planet take place in different locations, rather than just recycling the same map assets over and over and more often than not, the exact same map route. It's nothing if not incredibly lazy, and doesn't exactly do much to make us root for the game. In addition, why not let us do a little of the spaceship-piloting ourselves (with a quick-travel option for those who can't be bothered, of course)? From what the game has shown us so far, there's really not very much to the locales: what's there looks nice, but they're embarrassingly recycled, and there's little opportunity for players to venture off on their own path to discover some hidden goodies.
