Throughout Destiny, there are numerous references to Russian test pilot Vladimir Komarov, largely by way of armour bearing his surname, and also the Cloak of the Cosmonaut, which bears the description, "Vladimir Komarov helped build and fly Earth's first ships. He gave his life to the frontier." Komarov was the first human being to die while on a space mission, and so it's fitting that Bungie sought to honour his memory by further immortalising him in video game form.
