Dishonored: 10 Reasons You Need to Play Immediately

9. Think Like A 'Thief', Play Like A 'Deus Ex Machina'

One of the reasons why I am as passionate about this game as you can probably tell is due in part to how much it resembles an old school game: it is challenging, redefining, encourages longevity without cheating us with multiplayer and above all else fun to play. However, when I first read about this game and what it was going to offer it reminded me of two gems of video games that I used to play back in the day on my TIME PC; Thief and Deus Ex. Thief was a first person stealth based game where you had to carry out various thefts in a dark ages setting. You had various weapons and equipment pieces to help you carry out your assignments but ultimately you had to avoid detection, usually resorting to avoiding conflict rather than killing endlessly. Dishonored plays homage to this game by encouraging the same kind of game play by rewarding the gamer by taking a slow, methodical and ultimately stealth approach to the game. This game also reminds me of Deus Ex, the original, not Human Revolution. Similar in story and approach; going in all guns blazing is an option but you are rewarded by a more stealthy pacifists approach. The setting is a world where the fat cats are living off of the expenses of the plague ridden working class, though Deus Ex sets itself in a future, Cyber-Goth setting rather than a fantasy, Steam-Punk setting that Dishonored offers. Not only that, you have the choice system; in Deus Ex you can choose to kill or avoid, non lethal or lethal, upgrade this or upgrade that, go this way or that way, these and more are all entwined into the fibre of Dishonored€™s core. Old School Gamers Rejoice! Is this what we have been waiting for?
