DLC Coming to the 3DS & the Wii U

For the first time Nintendo will enter the world of downloadable content (DLC) for their own products.

Satoru Iwata and Shigeru Miyamoto see DLC as extending the life of games through adding new levels and other features. Fans of Nintendo can start looking forward to DLC that will lengthen the life of their games, my guess would be things like more tracks for Mario Kart and more arenas for Super Smash Brothers games. However, Iwata did state that certain types of DLC is harmful to building releationships with consumers and will avoid it such as keys or stat boosts;

"Iwata also questioned the concept of free-to-play games, where you start playing the game for free and are charged for item purchases. He feels that this type of system would damage the premium value of Nintendo's content."
So it seems that Nintendo will be getting into the DLC movement, but will do so cautiously to avoid distancing themselves from the consumer. I really don't know how to feel about this; on the one hand it could be great for games like Smash Brothers or Mario Kart - on the other hand I hope they don't delude some of their games like other developers have done; such as making games shorter and adding DLC later then charging people a lot of money for the downloadable content which should have been released in the game to begin with. How do you feel about this announcement, are you excited for new tracks in Mario Kart or are you worried Nintendo might water down their product?
